Sulphuric acid is a very popular product and is considered a very common laboratory chemical. It is usually found as either concentrated sulphuric acid or dilute sulphuric acid. When mixed with water there is quite a violent & exothermic reaction, the heat given off from the reaction can be quite extreme. When diluting sulphuric acid with water, it is common practice to add acid to a large amount of water - so that the heat will be dissipated through the water.

Sulphuric acid is a very important commodity chemical & it has many uses. For example it is used in general testing / analysis applications. Another common use is for car batteries. It is also used for making hydrochloric acid via the Mannheim process from salt.
